Short Courses
From time to time , the Centre conducts short courses lasting from 3 to 14 days, which impart basic counselling and interpersonal skills. Such courses are usually in response to requests by organisations for the training of their personnel. The courses are then tailored to meet specific needs of the group. Occasionally, short courses are also arranged on counselling for interested persons.
The Centre has conducted several short courses and the demand for these continues to be high. The courses are generally residential. Request by organisations should be made six months in advance of the proposed dates and must be addressed to the Centre's Programme Coordinator. The exact dates ,nature of programme and course fee may then be worked out.
THE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE COURSE IN COUNSELLING
The eight-week residential Certificate course is for persons who will utilise the training as an adjunct to their essential work as educators, clergy, administrators, social workers and so on. Functional knowledge of English is essential as English is the medium of instruction. This programme is compulsorily residential. Through regular interaction during residential living, human relation skills are developed.

Practical counselling skills are honed through specially arranged primary clinical assignments with patients in the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore. Trainees get opportunities to counsel in their native tongue. Another highlight is the provision of a personal supervisor for each trainee, to evaluate one's work as a counsellor every week.
The issue of the Certificates is subject to the completion of all the requirements of the course and full attendance is classroom activity and fieldwork; permission for upto two days' leave may be sought in the event of unforeseen emergencies.

THE POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA COURSE IN COUNSELLING
The one-year Diploma course is intended for persons who desire to develop professional proficiency in psychological counselling. Professional skills which are holistic, culturally sensitive, and oriented towards personal and social change are sought to be inculcated. Personal and professional growth through group experiences and individual supervision are emphasized. Various areas of counselling are dealt with in depth, which include:

* Counselling Skills * psychopathology
* Individual Counselling * Research Methodology in Counselling
* Group Dynamics * Marriage and the Family
* Religion, Values and Counselling
Prerequisites for this programme are a postgraduate degree in a behavioural science/related subject of theology, and Christian Counselling Centre's Certificate (eight-week course).
The requirements of the course include 2000 hours of residential professional work including at least 300 hours of counselling, both individual and group. A variety of clinical placements are available at the Christian Medical College and Hospital, and Centre's out -patient clinic. A daily log of learning is to be maintained and reviewed weekly with peers and supervisors; there will also be quarterly and annual evaluation of learning.
Hostel accommodation is available for both men and women. No accommodation is available for families. Persons who wish to stay off the campus with their families will be assisted in finding accommodation. Partial scholarships may be available when grants for this purpose are received.
LONG COURSES
The Centre also conducts a two-year Postgraduate Course in Psychological Counsellor Education and three-year doctoral-level Fellowship of the Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Further details may be obtained directly from the Director.
