Christian Counselling Centre

(Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860)

Global Concerns

Ever since its inception, the Christian Counselling Centre has been ecumenical in its outlook and concern in the broadest understanding of the term. During the early years, the inspiration for founding the Centre came out of the visit  of the renowned American Psychiatrist Dr.Frank Lake; the initiative to start the Centre and the provision of facilities was taken by Bishop Leslie New Begin, an English Missionary,  who also served as the Chairman of the Governing Board; the Director Dr. B. J. Prashantham has considerable experience of training and work in different parts of the world. Apart from the above, the Centre has had several persons from different parts of the world on its staff during the past 25 years..

Moreover, a number of trainees from about 25 countries of the world have lived and learnt at CCC. In more recent times, the CCC has made significant contributions in training of professionals for organisations and institutions outside the country. One may mention the United Society for Propagation of the Gospel, UK: Survivors Associated from Sri Lanka and Counsellors from Fiji. Special mention may be made of 5 doctoral students accompanied by a Faculty member from Seattle Pacific University, Seattle, USA who spent about a month at CCC as visitors involved in Cross-Cultural learning. Thus, awareness of global concerns and needs in counselling and psychotherapy has always been a strength of CCC. The CCC’s interest in focussing on Trauma Counselling is an expression such global perspective because all over the world people continue to experience disastrous and traumatic situations.

CCC’s approach, besides being ecumenical and global, is also holistic. Thus the training is focussed not on  individuals but on person-in-community. The bio-psychosocial and spiritual dimensions of human beings are always emphasised and the goal is to help people integrate their personalities which are being fragmented by the constant pressures experienced in today’s world.

Importance is also given in understanding the world religions and their impact on behaviour of persons and communities.
