2 Years M. Sc.,  in Counselling Psychology 

2 year divided into 4 semesters  

 

 SEMESTER DETAILS


The one-year professional Post Graduate Diploma in counselling psychology (2000 hours) is intended for persons who desire to develop professional proficiency in Counselling Psychology. Participants are expected to possess academic aptitude, demonstrated patterns of interest and personal qualifications which will enable them to function creatively and effectively in working with people in a variety of professional settings. Those who successfully complete the course will be awarded  M. Sc.  in  Counselling Psychology. 

I.    Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) Accreditation:

M. Sc. Counselling Psychology Post Graduate Degree will be provided from Martin Luther Christian University MLCU in association with Dr.Prashantham Institute for Couselling Psychology Trust. (PICT)

 

      II.    Duration: Two Years (4 Week between the two year will be spent in residance at MLCU in Shilong, Mahalaya. The rest of the two years will be at PICT. .

 

      III.    Eligibility:

Prerequisites for this program are:


 a. Postgraduate degree in behavioral science/related subjects like Psychology, sociology, social work, medicine, education, Pastoral Counselling and the like (Preferably candidates those who have obtained first class or higher second class in their postgraduate degree will be given priority)

                      or

  

  Bachelor degree holders in similar areas with a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.

                   And


b. Eight weeks PG certificate course in counselling psychology. (For those who have completed eight weeks PG certificate course in counselling psychology from CCC, they can complete the one-year diploma program in 10 months) 

or

c. Four-weeks PG certificate course in counselling psychology. (For those who have completed four weeks PG certificate course in counselling psychology from CCC, they can complete the one-year diploma program in 11 months)

V.    Criteria for award of M. Sc. in Counselling Psychology.

       1.     Satisfactory participation in experiential sessions and seminars. 

       2.     80 Credit  hours of professional work through opportunities provided by the centre and created by the trainees.

       3.     24  months of the course consisting of all the above, including at least 300 hours of counselling work both individual and group. On the whole 125 hours of supervision are required.

      4.     Weekly participation in personal growth experience through psychological counselling for professional effectiveness.

       5.     Maintenance of a daily log of learning to be reviewed weekly with peers and supervisors.

 

VI.    Clinical Supervision:

 

All the participants will have the privilege to be guided under the supervision of  Dr. B. J. Prashantham the Chief Clinical supervisor who has more than five decades of experience in the field of counselling psychology and has trained more than 52000 counsellors both nationally and internationally. He is also known as the Indian Counselling Guru who is the main architect of the CCC programs and is ably assisted by Professional Counsellors and Supervisors trained by him.

a.      The professional staff of CCC under the guidance of chief clinical supervisor Dr. B. J. Prashantham will be available every week at designated time on zoom/e-mail/phone for individual and group discussions. 

b.     There will be brief presentations with assignments, exercises and assessments that you are expected to complete on a daily and weekly basis.

c.      In whatever way that works for you, you will be expected to commit some time each day and week to complete assignments, seminar paper presentations, skills practice, reading reactions, group interactions and discussions with the staff within that framework. Some flexibility will be found within the structure.

d.      The institution reserves the right to modify timings due to different exigencies and will communicate with you.

 VII.    Termination from the Program and Refund Policy:

 

a.      During the 2-month orientation program, if the candidate does not perform and follows the requirements of the program satisfactorily, he/she will be asked to discontinue the program.

b.     In a situation where a participant becomes too sick to continue the program, on medical advice, he/she will be allowed to discontinue. If the participant is not cumulatively (on a week-by-week basis) fulfilling the minimum requirements of the course they will be asked to discontinue. Fees once paid are non-refundable however; the fees will be adjusted if the participant comes back for a future course within a year (within 12 months).

c.      Inability to follow the cumulative nature of the program and violation of CCC norms will result in forfeiting the eligibility of the certificate. 

d.     If after joining, a participant decides to leave the program for any reason, he/she will forfeit the fees paid.

e.      Furthermore, the institute reserves the right to ask any participant to discontinue the course if their personality problems and/or adjustment to the program turns out not to be in the best interest of the individual or the program. Such candidates will also forfeit the fees paid.

 

f.      If you are undergoing or have undergone any psychiatric treatment, we would like to know immediately, so as to enable us to advise whether a training program stress like this, would be suitable for you, at this time.  

 

g.     Each student will be eligible for one month's leave each year, which is subject to sanction from the Director.

 

   VIII.    Field Work

 

a.      Each candidate for the M. Sc Degree Counselling Psychology is responsible to make satisfactory fieldwork arrangements at any institution/context in their places like hospitals or schools or NGOs and provide counselling support in accordance with the norms of that institution. Consult your supervisor before finalizing your fieldwork.

b.     They should also be able to reflect on their experiences in order to learn and grow under the supervision of CCC staff and CCC norms.

c.      Telephone counselling through appropriate local agencies will also be acceptable for part of the field visit work.

h.     Confidential record-keeping and observance of other professional ethics will be expected.

 

i.       16 hours of fieldwork per week as per your convenient arrangements is needed.
